Do you have ambitions to become the manager of a dedicated and competent finance team?

Now you have the chance, as Ballard Power Systems Europe is seeking a Finance Manager who will be responsible for our European Finan½ce Department with primary base at our facilities in Hobro. As a Finance Manager you will be in the lead of a dedicated team consisting of five competent colleagues. You will report directly to our finance director with primary base in Vancouver, Canada where the rest of the global finance team is also located.

Ensure excellent management and alignment between local and global structures. 

Financial and management reporting, financial and variance analysis, and continual improvement of the control environment plays a critical role in Ballard’s success and in the delivery of business objectives. As a Finance manager you are responsible for managing, controlling, planning, and organizing the accounting processes in BPSE aligned to Corporate policy, practice, and requirements. You will ensure optimization and streamlining of business processes including the implementation of a new Oracle ERP system while simultaneously managing a motivated and well-functional finance team.

You will be responsible for:    

  • Leadership for the Finance Department in BPSE (5 employees) with direct reporting responsibility to Corporate Finance in Canada
  • Managing all financial accounting and reporting functions at BPSE, including monthly account close and consolidation, sales invoicing, banking, accounts payable, project and funded programs reporting, etc., while ensuring internal controls for these areas are performed in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley (“SOX”) and aligned with Corporate policies, practices and requirements
  • Oversee all financial control activities, including the review and analysis of monthly and quarterly results and disclosures.
  • Provide senior management at BPSE with accurate and comprehensive financial information to guide management decision making and financial strategizing.
  • Summarize budget trends, analyzing deficiencies, and reporting of variances.
  • Establish and control budgets across all departments.
  • Manage the year-end external audit process related internal control audit requirements; Provide external auditors with necessary documentation and support.
  • Reviewing and implementing opportunities to improve and streamline monthly reporting processes/procedures.
  • Opportunities to work on special projects, as needed.

Who are you?  

To be successful in this role you have some years years of experience as a people manager, where you have already proven that you are a positive and attentive people leader who inspire through your leadership with the ability to motivate, support and develop a successful team.

You have thorough knowledge of and experience in corporate financial operations, reporting, accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial management as well as comprehensive understanding of Danish tax stipulations, public company audit experience and expertise in financial modelling and intricate forecasting techniques.  

You have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent within in Finance, Accounting or similar related field and 5+ years of direct practical experience where you have demonstrated experience with the above-mentioned areas.   

In addition, you have

  • Advanced Excel skills – MS office
  • Experience with enterprise resource software (BPSE is currently transitioning from our legacy Axapta system and implementing the global Ballard Oracle system)
  • Experience with updating and generating reports in PowerBi is a plus.

You have exceptional analytical skills, and you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where it comes natural to you to make data-driven decisions and use facts and numbers as a base for discussion and decision-making.

Our corporate language is English, and we expect that you are a good communicator and have excellent written and verbal skills and are fluent in professional English.
